RESEARCH ANALYST INTERNSHIP
ROLE DESCRIPTION
As a research analyst intern you will be investigating and evaluating different intervention ideas in the AI safety space, particularly around x-risks and s-risks. The questions you explore will depend on your interests, skills, and the overall strategy of Nonlinear.

As a research analyst intern you will be investigating and evaluating different intervention ideas in the AI safety space, particularly around x-risks and s-risks. The questions you explore will depend on your interests, skills, and the overall strategy of Nonlinear.
Examples of questions you might investigate are:
- What are the highest leverage, most neglected meta-interventions in the longtermist space?
- What technical problems would be the highest impact to run a competition around?
- What are some concrete “fire alarms” for human-level AI that we could monitor?

- Pay: this is an unpaid position. A stipend can be given if you would otherwise not be able to take the position
WHAT WE NEED
- Obsession with truth-seeking
- High level of familiarity with the field of AI safety
- Optimizing mindset
- Interest in being high impact
- Ability to commit a minimum of 10 hours a week to the position
- Ability to commit to a minimum of 3 months to the role. If it goes well and you are interested, the role can be extended
WHAT WE WANT
- Machine learning knowledge
- Experience with cost-effectiveness analysis
- Experience with survey design
- Writing ability
- Live in a time zone between San Francisco and Germany (UTC-8 to UTC+1)
